DETROIT PUBLIC THEATRE ANNOUNCES SEASON 11

 

Here There Are Blueberries, The Mountaintop and King James join the back-by-popular-demand DPT Holiday Cabaret for the 2025-26 DPT season 

 

Performances Begin October 1st with the regional premier of the HERE THERE ARE BLUBERRIES  Here There Are Blueberries.  The season concludes with KING JAMES. 

 

 

(Detroit, MI - July 22, 2025)  Detroit Public Theatre (DPT) is thrilled to announce its 11th Anniversary Season.  The season opens with the first production of HERE THERE ARE BLUEBERRIES, conceived by Moisés Kaufman and written by Moisés Kaufman and Amanda Gronich, that has been granted to another theatre.  THE DPT HOLIDAY CABARET a Detroit holiday tradition, now in its third season will carry us through the holiday season with joy and laughter.  We kick off 2026 with Katori Hall’s powerful modern classic, THE MOUNTAINTOP, and conclude with the hilarious and moving play KING JAMES by Rajiv Joseph.

Here There are Blueberries

October 1 - November 2, 2025

In 2007, a mysterious album of never before seen World War II-era photographs arrives at the desk of a U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum archivist. As curators unravel the shocking truth behind the images, the album soon makes headlines around the world. Based on real events, Here There Are Blueberries tells the story behind these historical photographs—what they reveal about the perpetrators of the Holocaust, and ultimately, about our own humanity.

A sassy seasonal celebration! Back by popular demand! The DPT Holiday Cabaret is a bold new Detroit holiday tradition packed with world-class vocalists, heartfelt laughter, and a whole lot of sass. The Mountaintop

The Mountaintop is a gripping reimagining of events the night before the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Taking place on April 3, 1968, after the legendary civil rights leader delivers one of his most memorable speeches, the exhausted Dr. King retires to his room at the Lorraine Motel while a storm rages outside. When a mysterious stranger arrives and reveals a secret, Dr. King is forced to confront his destiny and his legacy to his people.

In Pulitzer Prize finalist Rajiv Joseph’s slam-dunk comedy, superfans Matt and Shawn forge an unexpected friendship through a shared love of their hometown Cleveland Cavaliers. Spanning 12 years from LeBron James’ 2004 rookie season to the 2016 NBA championship, tensions mount both on and off the court for the duo in this hilarious, adrenaline-infused exploration of love, grace, and the power of a good game to bring people together.

We are excited to share changes in our schedules in response to our audiences’ wishes as well as some ticket pricing changes for the season.  As DPT enters its second decade, the theatre remains committed to contributing to the vibrant Detroit arts community – making theatre accessible to all, and engaging audiences with bold, relevant, thrilling, thought-provoking productions. Instead of varying evening performance times depending on the day, all evening performances are now at 7:30pm EST and all matinees remain at 2pm EST.  Single tickets are now $52. To ensure maximum accessibility, each production will continue to include  regularly scheduled pick-your-price performances with tickets as low as $5. All Thursday performances during Season 11 will now have a ticket price of $30. Finally, a limited number of $25 “rush” tickets are available at the door two hours prior to each performance.  

 

To address funding shifts and rising costs of production in our current landscape, we have also added a “true cost” subscription option  and “true cost” single ticket prices for those with the  means to pay. DPT remains committed to keeping performances accessible and affordable for every budget level!
